Zia: a young volunteer’s experience Automatic audio transcript; may contain errors. [0:00] Hi, my name is Zia. I'm in Panama on a missions trip with my dad. [0:04] There's one group that did baseball. They talked about how to play baseball, [0:08] and gave out free shirts and baseball caps and baseballs. [0:14] And then there was a group who pulled out teeth. [0:18] It was my grandpa and another one of the workers. [0:21] They went and they pulled out the cavities because the Panamanians [0:27] don't have toothbrushes and don't have anything to clean their teeth. [0:30] Sometimes I hold the flashlight. [0:32] Once I even got to hold the needle, that when you poke into the person's mouth, it helps [0:37] its numb up so it doesn't hurt when you pull out the tooth. [0:41] The kids here have hardly anything. [0:44] They have not enough food. [0:47] Their houses are just like branches with just logs and the water that they drink is [0:56] It's super bad sometimes it has bacteria living in it so when they drink it they get sick. [1:03] We helped clean their water by putting gutters up. [1:06] The gutters collected the water and then they can drink that water. [1:10] Some of the fun things that we did in Panama where we went snorkeling, we went to the [1:14] back caves and went zip lining. [1:16] You went up at least 50 feet in the air on a humongous tree and you could not see [1:23] the bottom. [1:24] You could just see trees. [1:24] they hook you up to the zipline and then you just go super fast down and then [1:30] stop and then you go on another one and then you just fly. [1:34] What was really fun is that our boat driver is a race is a raceboat driver and so he [2:16] had this fast raceboat and he let me go in it when he was going super fast. [2:42] I was a little scared because it's like crashed on the waves and went super [2:46] high and then went down and really high but it was really fun.
